Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered a variety of engaging creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is actually a turd striving to navigate to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, encounter mini-bosses and access a store to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Plan your actions precisely, since one error requires beginning again. Jump on bubbles to hurl yourself to new heights, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Collect coins for buying more difficult stages in which the action gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off neon environments and a killer background music. The retro art with shifting geometric shapes may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's hard to name similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, gaming frequently featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is available at present on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on PC in the fall.
